Giving amount: $700

Receiver’s Story:
Blueburn, hailing from Taipei, Taiwan, doesn't strum the blues, isn’t notably gloomy, and definitely not a dud. They've sipped inspiration from various alternative bands of the nineties; channeling modern urban anxieties to craft a unique contemporary Taipei sound. They are all about breaking molds and tearing off labels. The band members save up for their creative endeavors, recording and releasing singles like "Diane, Don’t Smoke."

Receiver’s Need: MONEY!

Outcome:
This funding has supported Blueburn band in covering the costs of recording their new single "Cam Girl" in the studio.

Reformed Juvenile “Ah-Zhe”

Giver: Tora Hsu, a theater director.

Criteria set by the Giver:
Students under 18, interested in or in need of engagement with the arts industry.

Giver’s Story:
This giver is a well-known theater director, who believes he is not someone accustomed to seeking help. To him, help is a form of empathy, which is hard to extend towards others, while sympathy is easy to offer. On the path to empathy, you will encounter many things you disagree with.

Giving Amount: $200

Receiver’s Story:
16-year-old Ah-Zhe, a reformed youth, was sentenced for getting into a fight, and began serving his term in a correctional school in October 2021. Raised by his grandmother, whom he is very close to, Ah-Zhe now finds himself confined to a place where all he can do is read. He used to read romance novels from convenience stores, but now, he often mentions how bored he is and the need to develop new interests. Volunteers had recommended some books on emotional management, but he rejected them all. He expressed a liking for horror and thriller genres instead. The daily routine in the correctional school is similar to military service, with structured programs throughout the day and personal time only after dinner, during which he can write letters, read, etc. Currently, he resides in a dormitory with ten other individuals. Ah-Zhe was a part of a baseball team earlier and had a good athletic performance. However, he is uncertain and confused about what to do once his term ends.

Receiver’s Need: Books of Ah-Zhe’s own choice.

Outcome:
These books have been handed over by the social workers, showing him that there are still good forces in society. It also lets Ah-Zhe realize that there might be a form of giving that comes without any ulterior motives.

Yung Jen Elementary School’s Basketball Team

Giver: Wallace Huang, a labor lawyer.

Criteria set by the Giver:
Children under 13, who are passionate about basketball.

Giver’s Story:
After watching a P. League+ game with friends, Wallace realized that the experience of sitting court side was quite special. He believes more children who are playing basketball should have the opportunity to participate, providing his classmates with more room for future development and imagination. He wants them to know that basketball is meaningful and that there's more to school than just studying and dealing with coursework. He also hopes that children with fewer educational resources can have better care and environments after school, fostering different achievements and confidence beyond academics.

Giving Amount: $1,800 (To get 27 tickets and other travel costs.)

Receiver’s Story:
Yongzhen Elementary School, located in a remote area of Toufen City, Miaoli County, has many students raised by grandparents, a common local scenario. Many children lack after-school care and attention, and are somewhat lost regarding further education and their future. The establishment of the basketball team began with the simple idea of providing a place for children to go after school, enabling students to gain more confidence to explore different opportunities for further education and possibilities in the future. With strong support and promotion from Principal Xu, Director Peng, Teacher Ye, and other staff and students, Yongzhen Elementary School has won championships in numerous national competitions.

Receiver’s Need: Provide better care and development for students' after-school activities.

Outcome:
They actually went to a basketball game!
